Auditions will be held on Wednesday, January 5 immediately after school. We will meet in the 5th/6th grade commons. Previously, I had stated that students would be allowed to leave and come back for their audition slot, but things have been adjusted a bit and all students will be asked to stay. If that causes any issues, please let me know and I will be happy to work with you.
This is a rundown of how the afternoon will go:
Introductions as a group.
Dance audition as a group. No one will be asked to dance alone, we will just learn a short number and I will watch as we go. I will be able to learn all I need from this short (very short) session.
We will then start the audition process. This will happen one at a time, not in front of all of the other students. Everyone will be asked to perform the lines and sing a portion of the song they have prepared.
Students are free to leave after they have completed their portion of the audition; however, I cannot promise you what time that will be. Your child is welcome to call you if you'd like. Otherwise, we will all be dismissed by 5:15. Pick-up will be at door 2.
The goal is to pass out scripts on January 5 as everyone who auditions will be a part of the production. This is assuming, of course, that we have received them by then! *fingers crossed*
The cast list will be posted on this website by 5 pm on Friday, January 7.
Specifics for Auditions...
CLICK HERE for the cast introductions and the audition lines.
Read through the cast information and select the role for which you'd like to audition. PLEASE NOTE - just because you audition for a specific character does not guarantee you will be given that part. Some will be given other parts and some will be cast as Rockers or Campers.
Once you have selected your top choice, learn the lines provided for that character. If your chosen role does not have lines provided, chose the character that will allow you to act in a way that would show your potential to play that other role.
ADVICE - We are not just looking for people who come in knowing the lines. You will notice that the parts to memorize for auditions are small. We assume that as 5th and 6th graders, you can handle learning 3-5 lines. We are looking for what you bring to the role. How are you acting? What is your personality showing? Are you comfortable moving while delivering your lines? Are you making us feel the way you should in that specific scene? Can we hear you? Can we understand you? Please keep all of this in mind as you rehearse.
Here are the songs that you are to choose from for auditions:
Start the Party
Fire
Can't Back Down
Introducing Me
What We Came Here For
This is Our Song
You're My Favorite Song
Would it benefit you to know the entire song? Absolutely. Will we be expecting you to sing the entire song? No. Usually it's the first verse and chorus (roughly 30 seconds).
We will ask you to perform the song with the backing track, not the guide vocals. I will be providing all of this in a separate post. For now, these songs are available on Spotify, YouTube, etc.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions. You can always email me at tdenen@smcsc.com or text/call 815-814-8089.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
